Meatballs have a rich history that spans across cultures and time. Originating in the Middle East and eventually making their way to various cuisines, meatballs have been a popular way to utilize ground meats and create flavorful, bite-sized delicacies. What we know in the United States as meatballs are known as kofta in the Middle East or keftedes in Eastern Europe. In recent years, turkey meatballs emerged as a leaner and healthier alternative to traditional beef or pork versions, and have since become a staple in kitchens worldwide.

Tips and Variations:

  • Herb Infusion: Experiment with a variety of fresh herbs such as basil, rosemary, or cilantro to customize the flavor profile of your turkey meatballs.
  • Cheese Fusion: Replace Parmesan cheese with other cheeses like feta or mozzarella for an exciting twist. You can even wrap the ground meat around a piece of melty mozzarella for a cheesy surprise.
  • Texture Boost: For added texture, fold in chopped sun-dried tomatoes, cooked spinach, or sautéed mushrooms into the meatball mixture.
  • Saucy Delight: Serve your turkey meatballs with a zesty marinara sauce, a creamy Alfredo sauce, or a tangy tzatziki for a burst of flavor. They keep so well, you can batch cook them and make different sauces to dip in.

FAQ for Airfryer Turkey Meatballs:

Can I use ground turkey breast?

Absolutely! Ground turkey breast is lean and a great choice for those seeking a lower-fat option. Just keep in mind that lean meat can be slightly drier, so adding a little extra olive oil to the mixture can help keep it juicy.

Can I bake the meatballs instead of pan or air-frying:?

Yes, you can! Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and arrange the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are cooked through and golden brown.

Can I freeze turkey meatballs?

Absolutely. After cooking, let the meatballs cool completely, then transfer them to an airtight container or freezer-safe bag. They can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months. To reheat, thaw in the refrigerator and warm in a skillet or microwave.
